- CAN I USE SILVACIDE WITH CHEMICAL
DEBRIDING AGENTS?
It is recommended that NO silver products be used with chemical debriding
agents. The literature suggests that silver when in contact with the
enzymatic agent can compromise the effects of each.
- CAN I SUBSTITUTE SILVACIDE
FOR SALINE IN A “WET TO
DRY” DRESSING?
Absolutely. The substitution of Silvacide for saline has the following
benefits:
A. The dressing becomes a broad spectrum antibacterial
B. The dressing accelerates wound healing
C. The dressing provides analgesia to the site
D. The dressing leaves the wound site pH at 5 not 7+
E. Using our protocol, dressing changes are less frequent
F. The dressing is very cost effective
- WHAT IS THE INCIDENCE OF BIOFILMS
IN INFECTED
WOUNDS?
The incidence of biofilms in wounds has only been estimated. In a
presentation at the St. Petersburg General/St. Petersburg College
on November4, 2005, Dr. Liza Ovington stated “…the incidence
of biofilms in infected wounds may be as high as 80%...”
- CAN SILVACIDE BE USED WITH
OTHER SILVER BASED
WOUND DRESSINGS?
Yes. There are several benefits for doing this.
Most of these dressings are “silver poor” having an ion
release rate of less than 20 ppm. By adding the 50 ppm of SILVACIDE,
the ion release rate is greatly improved.
For those patients who experience pain from their wound or the dressing
itself, SILVACIDE will provide analgesia to the site.
SILVACIDE will accelerate the healing process.
- WOULD I GET COMPARABLE RESULTS
IF I USED A
COMMERCIAL COLLOIDAL SILVER?
No. SILVACIDE contains a patented “potentiator” which
increases the effectiveness of our silver. Also, most commercial colloidal
silvers vary dramatically in the ion release rate of their silver
on a batch to batch basis. The quality controls on the silver in SILVACIDE
are rigidly enforced so there is a consistent ion release rate of
50 ppm.
- WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED METHOD
OF SLOWING THE
RATE AT WHICH SILVACIDE DRYES OUT?
While SILVACIDE can be covered with any semi-occlusive dressing,
optimal results are achieved when the site is covered with one of
the polymer foam dressings (Allevyn, Flexzan, Biatain, etc.). Best
results are achieved by keeping the wound site and covering MOIST
with the SILVACIDE.
- IS SILVACIDE CYTOTOXIC? IS
IT BIOCOMPATIBLE?
When tested, SILVACIDE was found to have “…met the requirements
of ISO” for both.
