The following two studies combine
SILVERLON wound dressings with negative pressure therapy (VAC) in healing
problem wounds.
The study done by Dr. Carson (Fountain
Valley, CA) is remarkable because it examined the benefits of changing
the dressings every seven (7) days as opposed to the standard change
of every other day. The comments in the studies outline rationale, technique
and outcomes.
Some of the benefits to this technique
are:
- An extremely high rate of healing:
100% and 97% respectively.
- By changing the dressing once
per week, the risk of the VAC "seal" breaking and allowing
air in is minimized. This can eliminate the need for unnecessary SNV's.
- By changing the dressing once
per week, SNV's can b3e reduced to only one or two per week.
- A reduction in the overall cost
of the procedure.
